Roadmap

This page sets out what we're working on now, what we're looking at next, and what we'd like to do in the future for the NSWDS Email Framework and NSW Email Design System documentation site.

Now

We're currently focused on:

• Documenting all existing components with usage examples.
• Streamlining developer onboarding with additional guides.
• Establishing a versioning and release schedule.
• Infographics blocks – new horizontal and stacked single-stat infographic HTML templates
• Galleries update – improved image source URLs and layout consistency
• Performance and stability – upgrading core dependencies like @maizzle/framework and@nswds/tokens to keep the framework secure and maintainable
• Testing and quality – expanding accessibility and Lighthouse CI checks to help teams catch issues early

Next

We're planning to work on:

• Template expansion – more ready-made template layouts such as showcasing the infographics, galleries, and content blocks for richer communications
• Hero component – provide a full–width hero section with optional background image and overlay text, styled for maximum client compatibility.
• Inline contact list component – horizontally displays icons and text for phone, email, and address links.
• Event schedule block – lists session times and descriptions in a simple, accessible table.

Future

We'd like to explore:

• Automation support – examples for integrating with email platforms and CI/CD pipelines
• Dark mode – variants that automatically switch typography and colour palettes for dark mode.
• Email analytics – tracking and reporting on email performance metrics.
• Personalisation – dynamic content and layout variations based on user data.

How we prioritise

We choose what to work on by looking at:

• feedback from teams using the framework
• accessibility and compliance requirements
• security and dependency health
• alignment with the NSW Design Standards
